Internships

During my senior year of college at Illinois State University, I got the opportunity to work with two incredible departments at Illinois State University simultaneously: Event Management, Dining and Hospitality (EMDH) and the Office of Sustainability. Both departments granted me different opportunities to hone my skills and use my designs in real-world settings.

Before the new students moved into their dorms each year, the Office of Sustainability would do a series of posts about “Sustainable SWAPs,” a student could make to live a more sustainable life as a college student. These were all posted on Instagram via a carousel, and the illustrations were used for many other projects throughout the year. I illustrated these with Procreate and assembled the rest of the content in InDesign.

The 50th Anniversary of the Bone Student Center was a major event for Illinois State University, featuring a large celebration dinner and interactive activities for students. To spread awareness, we made this poster to hand out to students, highlighting where and when events would take place. The initial poster was given to students in black and white. As they attended events, they would receive stickers. By accumulating all nine stickers, they could complete the colored picture. This design was also displayed at a larger scale in a marquee outside the Bone Student Center and as a banner.

I was so honored to be a part of the 50th anniversary of the Bone Student Center. I got the opportunity to design and create a lot of collateral for the subsequent events as well. It was fun and challenging to design a poster that college students would find cool and not simply end up in the trash cans around campus. This design was one of the more technically advanced projects I executed well in Adobe Illustrator.

Event Management, Dining and Hospitality

Event Management, Dining, and Hospitality is the largest campus employer at Illinois State University. The department oversees the dorms, the dining halls, the Bone Student Center, and its encompassing business and events. I was a part of their marketing team as a graphic design intern, producing social media content, event photography, and food photography.

To advertise the events in the Bone Student Center, we created some animations for the EMDH Instagram story. Each design was a part of a larger collection of collateral announcing the events to students. These animations were displayed on the digital screens seen around campus. They were executed in After Effects and Procreate.

Office of Sustainability

When I joined the Office of Sustainability as an intern, I didn’t know a lot about environmentalism. However, it didn’t take long to fall in love with sustainability and community involvement. From Zero Waste Tailgates to a free thrift store on site for students, the Office of Sustainability was a really cool place to work. Designing for a cause I cared so much about was very rewarding.

Every year, before the new students moved into their dorms, the Office of Sustainability would do a series of posts about “Sustainable SWAPs,” a student could make to live a more sustainable life as a college student. These were all posted on Instagram via a carousel, and the illustrations were used for many other projects throughout the year. I illustrated these with Procreate and assembled the rest of the content in InDesign.
